The Interfaith Food Bank is gearing up to compete in the Whoop Up Days store front decorating contest.

This year’s theme: what does Whoop Up Days mean to you?

The charity has pulled out all the stops for the judges.

“Shock and awe, as soon as they walk in the door. Want their jaws to hit the ground and really see that we put in a lot of effort here,” said Kurtis Hawkins with the Food Bank.

Exhibition Park is hosting the contest, and only four local businesses have signed up so far. Due to low numbers, they’re encouraging companies from around the city to join the fun.

“Lethbridge is kind of that city with a small town feel, so we really wanted to bring that community aspect into Whoop Up Days this year and to bring the businesses together,” said Jenna Easter, events supervisor with Exhibition Park.

For the Food Bank, they’re using their theme as an opportunity to help launch, Project Protein, a program that will help bring protein to less fortunate families.

“We are recruiting donations of livestock from the livestock industry to grind into protein for Food Bank families, so right now we are accepting both beef and pork donations,” said Danielle McIntyre, executive director of the Interfaith Food Bank.

Registration for the decorating contest ends August 8, and judging will take place August 13. For more information, contact Exhibition Park at 403-328-4491.
