SASKATOON – Two young Saskatchewan brothers had their fishing gear stolen from a Saskatchewan lake over the August long weekend. Word of the sentimental value the goods had has prompted people to step forward with support and donations.

Like many fishermen, these brothers, from Warman, Sask., have their favourite hooks and lures.

A love for fishing is undeniable between five-year-old Nicolas and 3-year-old Jaxson who spent this past Saturday with their father at Emma Lake.

Returning to shore at Murray Point North for supper, the boys left their tackle boxes and rods in a boat but when they returned the fishing gear was missing.

“Daddy and mom went down and they told us that they were stolen,” said Nicolas Liske.

“I don’t know who stole it, even daddy or mom don’t know or my brother don’t know who stole it,” said Jaxson Liske.

Tackle boxes were valuable to the pair and the family. One was their father’s from his childhood, the other was their late grandfather’s who never got the chance to fish with them.

A family member took to social media to ask for the public’s help and the return of the fishing gear.

“I’m hoping they will come back but somebody gave us a new fishing rod and a new hook and some new hooks,” said Nicolas.

Public support has flooded in with strangers stepping forward to donate gear to the boys.

An unexpected and touching response says the family that’s put a smile back on their faces.
