TORONTO —; Singer Marianne Faithfull has claimed her ex-boyfriend killed The Doors frontman Jim Morrison by supplying him with heroin that was too strong.

Morrison died in his Paris apartment in 1971 at 27. An autopsy was not performed and foul play was not suspected. Speculation that the singer died of a heroin overdose has persisted.

In an interview with MOJO, Faithfull recalled the day her then-boyfriend, drug dealer Jean de Breiteuil, went to Morrison’s apartment.

“I could intuitively feel trouble,” she said. “I thought, I’ll take a few Tuinal [sedatives] and I won’t be there. And he went to see Jim Morrison and killed him.”

Faithfull acknowledge Morrison’s death was likely an accident.

“Poor bastard. The smack was too strong? Yeah. And he died,” she said. “And I didn’t know anything about this.”

Faithfull said “everybody connected to the death of this poor guy is dead now.” (Breiteuil died of an overdose not long after Morrison’s death.)

The 67-year-old former girlfriend of Mick Jagger, who co-wrote “Sister Morphine” on The Rolling Stones album Sticky Fingers, had a well-publicized struggle with drug addiction.

Faithfull also spoke to MOJO about singer Amy Winehouse, who died in 2011 of alcohol poisoning. Like Morrison, she was 27.

“Amy was very, very wary of me. She knew that I knew and she didn’t want me to say anything,” she said. “There’s a level of narcissism which is all mixed up with self-hatred. It know it well.

“It’s like a glass wall between you and the world, so that all the love that everybody pours onto you, you don’t feel it. But I can’t think what I could have done apart from take her and [shouts] shake her! ‘You stupid little c**t! Wake up!’”

Faithfull’s new album Give My Love To London, is due out on Sept. 29. She embarks on a 50th anniversary world tour in October.
